From June 3rd to June 30th in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205) is open a book exhibition "And the word has come to life…” dedicated to the 60th birthday of Belarusian writer and honored cultural worker of Belarus Aleksey Dudarev.


The exhibition presents about 200 documents about the life and creative development of the eminent dramatist, scenario writer and actor who is a particularly brilliant and remarkable figure in the world of art. The author writes about the present, a man in the war, historical figures and events. Works by Aleksey Dudarev are remarkable for a variety of genres and original plots.

The section of the exposition ”Reflection on the past and the present” includes the author’s book The Saint Bird: Short Stroies (1979), Blue-Eyes: Fairy Tales (1981), Dialogue: Plays (1987), Cross: Collection of Plays (2002), Prince Vitaut: Plays (2006), and also theatre scenarios and scripts. Amateurs of Aleksey Dudarev’s works will see at the exhibition his plays Choice (1979), Ascension (1980), Threshold (1981), Evening (1983), Private Soldiers (1984), Demolition (1989), The Black Lady of Niesvizh (1998), Polochanka (2000).

A separate block ”The harmony of thoughts and the soul” presents works published in journals and collections. The most interesting are the plays which haven’t been edited as separate books: Kupala (1994), Estrangement (1994), Kim (2000), Don’t Leave Me Alone... (2009), The Breast Fortress (2009) and others.

The section “In search of harmony” is dedicated to the works by Aleksey Dudarev translated into other languages.

Documents displayed in the section “To touch a dream” in particular works by Belarusian scientists N. Aksenchik, T. Avdonina, E. Salnikova acquaint with Aleksey Dudarev’s life and many-sided creative activity. The autobiographical and literary-critical essays published in encyclopedias, numerous journals and collections are offered to visitors’ attention.

The plays of Aleksey Dudarev attract producers, literary and theatrical critics and audience both in Belarus and abroad. The dramatist’s name appears on playbills of many theatres in Belarus and foreign countries. He is author of scripts for movies and shorts. The section “For the audience” is dedicated to Aleksey Dudarev’s creative connection with theatre and cinema.

The fruitful work of Aleksey Dudarev has been highly appreciated by the State: he is a laureate of the Prize of Lenin Komsomol of Belarus (1982), the Prize of Lenin Komsomol (1984), the state Prize of the USSR (1985), the Prize “For spiritual renaissance” (2000), the Special Prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus (2001), and the Union State Prize for Literature and Art (2002).

The exposition is illustrated with photos of the author and posters.

Adam Shanyavsky and the library fund of the Nesvizh county school (the last quarter of the XVIII century)

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).
