A book exhibition timed to the 80th anniversary of Nil Gilevich, the people’s poet of Belarus, runs from 15 September to 8 November in the Belarusian literature reading room (room 205).


Nil Symonovich Gilevich is one of the outstanding masters of modern Belarusian literature, literary critic, folklorist, translator, honored research worker of Belarus, laureate of Y. Kupala State Prize (1980) and the International Botev Prize (1986).

His works are well-known both in Belarus and abroad. The writer is gifted by nature with many talents: he is at once a lyric poet, a satirist and journalist, a dramatist, an ardent speaker, a tribune, a public figure, an educator, a scientist, a folklorist and a translator.

Nil Gilevich’s poetry combines an unforgettable memory of the war with a reflection on time and life, a profound moral pursuit with a passionate propagation of good and justice and a great love of Belarusian people and culture.

Nil Gilevich’s literary heritage is represented at the exhibition by collected works and selected poems, separate poetry books, collected satirical and humoristic works, children’s books, collected critical essays and articles, papers about literary criticism and study of folklore, collected plays, an autobiographical story, and also publications in different collective editions and magazines.

A particular exhibition section presents translations made by the writer from Bulgarian, Slovenian, Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Serbo-Croat, Sorbian and other languages.

The exhibition presents Nil Gilevich’s works translated into different languages, and also acquaints with his activities as a compiler and an educator.

The exposition is supplemented with materials about the writer’s life and creative activity.

Adam Shanyavsky and the library fund of the Nesvizh county school (the last quarter of the XVIII century)

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
