A subject book exhibition “All are different, all are unique” timed to the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development runs at the National Library of Belarus (2nd floor, circular hall) from 17 May to 30 June.
Cultural diversity of the world and its preservation are today the urgent issue considered and solved at different levels and in the different countries. This is one of the major tasks of the UNESCO and the Council of Europe. The UNESCO 31st General Conference which took place in November, 2001, adopted the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity and the Action Plan for its implementation. Cultural diversity is considered as part of the universal human heritage which, being a source of exchanges, appearance of new ideas and development of creativity, is as necessary for humanity as biological variety is necessary for wildlife. Therefore it should be kept for the sake of present and future generations and be considered as one of fundamental human rights. laws of the person. The Declaration states, that the international dialogue, tolerance and respect for cultural variety are necessary conditions for construction of a sustainable world. Under the initiative of UNESCO May 21st, 2003 was proclaimed the World Day for the Declaration and the Action Plan.
The National Library of Belarus offers a subject book exhibition “All are different, all are unique” which includes about 100 documents: books concerning the problems of ethnic and cultural contacts, the questions of translation and dialogue of cultures, national cultural and ethnographical features and national mentality of different people; studies and concepts of intercultural cooperation and mutual influence of cultures of peoples of the world; popular scientific editions on national geography including ethnic and psychological characteristics of separate peoples; manuals on the basics of intercultural communication in the multinational business environment.
