From July 28th to August 31st at the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205) runs an exhibition "A selfless service to science” timed to the 90th birthday of Belarusian ethnologist Vasily Bondarchik (1920–2009).
Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, PhD, professor, honored cultural worker of Belarus, laureate of the prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Vasily Bondarchik is the author of 27 monographs and about 270 articles on the history of modern Belarusian ethnography, folklore, and material and spiritual culture of the Belarusian people.
Vasily Bondarchik represented Belarusian ethnology at numerous international congresses that took place in Moscow, Chicago, Delhi, Toronto, and participated in conferences of specialists in the history of Slavs and ethnologists in Poland, Bulgaria, Czechia and Slovakia.
The exposition includes about 130 documents. The first section of the exhibition “Comprehension of the common property of the people” presents scientific papers written and edited by the scientist: “The History of Belarusian Ethnography of the ХІХ сentury” (1964), “The History of Belarusian Ethnography. The Early ХХ сentury” (1970), “The History of Belarusian Soviet Ethnography” (1972), “Ethnical Processes and the Mode of Life” (1980), “Crafts in Belarus” (1984), “Ethnography of the Belarusians” (1985), the fundamental edition in many volumes “The Belarusians” (1995–2005) etc.
The second section of the exhibition “The outstanding Belarusian ethnographer” is dedicated to Vasily Bondarchik’s life and career.
