From May 6th to June 6th, a thematic book exhibition “A hymn to national courage” runs in the Fine arts reading room (auditorium 306).

2015 is a significant year. This year we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. The tragedy and greatness, grief and joy, pain and memory – all of this is the Victory. Like a bright, ever-burning star it sparkles in the sky of our national history. The Victory Day is a holiday which in the course of time does not grow dull but takes more and more important place in our life. The duty of all subsequent generations is to keep the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War.

The mission of artists devoting their work to the theme of war is noble and significant. Their creativity is a struggle for peace and life, a severe and uncompromising fight against a background of confrontation of forces of progress and militarism. Each reference of art to events of the Great Patriotic War draws it together with urgent problems of the today's world making it one of emotional, popular and effective ways to warn mankind against new military tragedies. Immersion in the past is not only a tribute to the memory of the perished, but also a service to the future.

For our country this date is filled with a very special sense. This is our sacred memory of heroes perished on fields of battles, our history, our pain, our joy… The war swept across Belarus like an ominous fire. Each third resident of our republic died in this flame. The tragedy of this war is not buried in oblivion. Works by Belarusian painters, graphic artists and sculptors revive the feat of our people. Reproductions of works presented at the exhibition, help to feel an atmosphere of the wartime, the people’s fighting spirit, the greatness of the Victory. Reproductions of Valentine Volkov’s canvases including his most known “Minsk's on July 3rd, 1944” depicting the sensation of joy in the day of the liberation of Minsk from Nazi occupants, albums of painting by Mikhail Savitsky and other artists are on display.

Also the offered exposition features Soviet postcards and other graphic materials dedicated the Victory Day. More than 50 documents are on display.
