The second part of the Towards the Victory project, timed to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, officially opened in the National Library on June 18.
The photo and documentary exhibition, titled "We hastened this day as best we could..." (quotation from the Victory Day song) presents the tangible evidence of the Great Patriotic War. The history unfolds on exhibition stands: fierce fighting, genocide, the Nazis’ the bloody terror, partisan movement – and the victory.
The event was attended by Roman Motulsky, the director of the National Library of Belarus; Sergei Azaronak, the director of the National Museum of Military History of the Republic of Belarus under the Ministry of Defense, and Colonel Bronislaw Karpenko, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War.
The exhibition also features the most valuable banners of the Great Patriotic War: the silk battle flags, which belonged to the 85th Order of the Red Star separate guards signal battalion, the 37th Red Banner and Order of Suvorov tank regiment in Nikopolsk, the 93rd Red Banner and Order of Kutuzov tank regiment in Tallinn, and the 263rd Red Banner and Order of Suvorov tank regiment.
The exhibition is the first joint project of the National Library and the National Museum of Military History of the Republic of Belarus under the Ministry of Defense. We hope for further cooperation.
The exposition runs in the Atrium gallery (3rd floor), until July 20, 2019.
The closing date may be changed.
The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the library’s opening hours.
Admission is by library card or by ticket of the library's social and cultural center. Information and tickets may be obtained at the registration desk.
