On March 3, an exhibition of watercolours and drawings "The Palette of Spring" opened at the "Rakurs" Gallery (2nd floor). While the Grass Grows in Belarus”.

The congratulatory project is dedicated to Women's Day and is intended to remind of the imminent awakening of nature. The organizers of the exhibition of watercolours and drawings are the National Library of Belarus, "Akvavir" art studio (headed by Uladzimir Rynkevich) and the Belarusian Union of Artists.

Ms Alena Dalgopolava, First Deputy Director General made a welcome speech at the opening of the exhibition: "Spring art exhibitions at the National Library of Belarus are a good tradition that lasts for decades. The popularity of the previous year exhibition project “The Palette of Spring” proves that both spring exhibitions and the exhibitions of watercolours are a success among the visitors of galleries”.

Mr Uladzimir Rynkevich, moderator of the project, watercolourist and art critic spoke about the poetic line in the title of the exhibition: “The bouquets of garden flowers as the symbols of prosperity, sincere feelings, usually accompany significant public and personal events. What about the grass? The variety of forest and meadow flowers, mixed grass evoke imagination and hint the artist at associations, forms of visualization, artistic allegories, metaphors, symbolism and abstraction”.

During the opening, Mr Andrej Basalyga, Deputy Chairperson of the public association “Belarusian Union of Artists”, Ms Olga Vanina, Director of the publishing house “Piatrus Brouka Belarusian Encyclopaedia shared their impressions.

The selection of exhibits was carried out on a competitive basis. The exhibition features artworks by such professional Belarusian watercolourists as Victoryja Iljinskaja, Alies Kwiatkouski, Vera Kauvzanovich, Mikalaj Auchynikau, Jagor Arciukhou, Rygor Miazhujeu, Alena Shychko, Siagej Pisarenka, Natalia Averjanava, Galina Haidarava, Feliks Gumen, as well as young artists, teachers, members of artist associations, students of art departments.

Among the exhibited artworks, the competent jury has chosen the best. The winners received diplomas from Mikalaj Pagranouski, a member of the "Belarusian Union of Artists”. The best watercolourists were presented with the books "Figures and Images: Belarusian Graphic Arts of the 19th Century" (2019) and "Akvarelija. Belarus Watercolour Painting” (2020) by Mr Mikalaj Pagranouski. The last publication presents more than 160 illustrations of contemporary Belarusian artist-watercolourists. This year, the book received a first-degree diploma in the category “Art Book” at the 28th Minsk International Book Fair. Both publications are stored in the collections of the National Library.

We invite you to the exhibition of watercolours “The Palette of Spring. While the Grass Grows in Belarus ”. Warm spring artworks, wealth of colours and paints, good mood and bright wave of inspiration await visitors of the gallery.

Admission is by the library card or by the Social and Cultural Centre ticket.

The exhibition will be on show until June 5, 2021.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
