The exhibition of paintings by students of the Minsk State Art Collage named after A.K. Glebov “Open-Air 2015” opened in the National Library of Belarus on 29 October.

The exposition presents over 100 open-air paintings created by students of the art college in 2015 during their trips to Belarus (Grodno, Novogrudok, Nesvizh, Ruzhany), Russia (Voronezh, St.-Petersburg), Bulgaria (Varna), Poland (Lodz), and Slovakia (Smizany, the Tatras). This tradition of guest open-airs has existed since 1947, when the Minsk State Art Collage named after A.K. Glebov was established.

Works by students are performed in various techniques and styles. Each etude reflects the unique features of landscapes and architecture of various cities and countries. Students under the direction of skilled teachers aspired to reproduce in painting and graphics various states of nature, illumination, forms and structures of different natural and architectural objects. Thus they sought out the most expressive composition and color decisions to reflect their author’s idea.

Open air painting fosters emotional perception of nature and architecture and promotes deeper understanding of forms, compositions, colors and light. Working in open air is always an experiment when an artist, on the one hand, solves by intuition many technical problems, and on the other hand, forms the author’s vision of the outer world. This is a tireless creative search which basic purpose is the achievement of the harmony between the external and the private worlds.

During 68 years of the fruitful creative activity, the Minsk State Art Collage named after A.K. Glebov has graduated a number of talented artists, sculptors, graphic artists, masters of arts and crafts, and art critics. For such a long time, the college has formed a special system of teaching, rich in peculiar internal traditions. Many of former graduates are today organizers of republican and international projects, getting in touch with history and culture of other countries. Owing to their activity and enthusiasm, the art of Belarus every year becomes more and more demanded and popular, boldly acting on the world artistic arena.

The exhibition runs in the gallery “Panorama” (on the 22nd floor) till 29 November, 2015.

To visit the exhibition you have to pay entrance fee for the Observation platform.
