On 26 November, the personal exhibition of photographic portraits by sculptor and photographer Jaǔhen Kolčaǔ Light and Color opened at the gallery “Atrium”.

For Belarusian sculptor Jaǔhen Kolčaǔ, the picture has become a favorite hobby in recent years. The offered exhibition presents the series of photographic portraits of Belarusian artists and art critics, filmmakers, photographers and journalists made by the author. These artworks, fixing the image in different circumstances, are not a staged photo shoot that is more familiar to the portrait genre. Today we have the opportunity to make sure that amateur shooting has transformed into the true art project worthy of gallery shows. Each image conveys its special mood; each artwork is full of depth since it reflects the artist’s creative essence captured in the portrait.

Jaǔhen Kolčaǔ works in the field of easel sculpture and animalism, adhering to the realistic tradition in art. His major works are Michelangelo, Icarus, Soldiers, Karate, Knockout, Temptation, The Apple of Discord, Twins, The Kiss, Running, Hounds, Dachshunds, and also the series of portraits of K. Kalinowski, V. Mayakovsky, R. Zaslonov, A. Zadorin, I. Barhatkov and others.

In 1992–2000 the artist worked in the restoration workshops of Poland where he took an active part in the restoration of complex architectural and sculptural elements of the Gothic and Baroque styles; the sites are located in Poland and Germany.

Jaǔhen Kolčaǔ’s works are kept in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art (Minsk), and also in private collections in Belarus and abroad. He is a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists.

Head of the Gallery and exhibition department of the National Library of Belarus Aliaksandr Zimenka, sculptor and deputy chairman of the Union of Artists f Belarus Aliaksandr Draniec, artist Aksana Arakčeeva, photographer Vital’ Rakovič, art critic Tacciana Biembiel’, curator of the exhibition and director of the gallery of graphics Knižny salon Alla Zmijova took part in the exhibition opening day.
