On 10 January, 2008, at the National Library of Belarus (circular hall, 3rd floor) opened the exhibition of works by students of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts “Juventa


The event was arranged by the National Library of Belarus, the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, Belrosbank and the Evrofond Company.

The support of talented youth has always been one of the major tasks o fthe State. Thereupon the National Library of Belarus, the Belarusian State Academy of Arts and Belrosbank have joined their efforts to present 40 works by beginner artists: Anton Mikhalenko, Polina Demidenko, Maria Los, Pavel Ksendzov, Olga Dunay, Inna Matveychuk, Anton Vyrvo, Alesya Skorobogataya, Arseniy Danelia, Pavel Maslenikov, Natalya Belousova, Anna Kononova, Anna Koren, Natalya Tabusheva, Leonid Prikhodko, Evelina Krishtapovich. Alesya Skorobogataya is a laureate of the special prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the support of talented youth.

The students’ works feature in the illustrated calendar for 2008 which was published with the sponsorship of Belrosbank and presented at the event.

The exhibition runs till 27 January, 2008.

Exhibition Dedicated to Ales Staver

From August 9 to October 14 the exhibition dedicated to the 90th birthday of the Belarusian poet, prose writer and playwright Ales Staver (1929–1995) is held in the Belarusian Literature reading room (205).

Minsk, the Capital of My Country

The city of Minsk was first mentioned in The Tale of Bygone Years, relating to the events of 1067. By decree of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Alexander, on March 14, 1499 Minsk, like other big cities, received the Magdeburg Law, and on January 12, 1591 the city was granted its own coat of arms: the image of Our Lady on a blue background between two angels and cherubs.
