On December 19, 2008, in the National Library of Belarus took place the opening of an exhibition of miniatures of Iranian artist Mahmoud Farshchian and a concert of Iranian folk music. The event was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Republic of Belarus.

On December 11, 2008, in National Library of Belarus took place a ceremony of handing of literature and scientific and documentary materials from the eminent Belarusian figures’ personnel archives in Poland to National Library of Belarus. The event was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Poland in Belarus.

The “Polymya” magazine is celebrating its centenary this year. The oldest literary, artistic and socio-political publication in Belarus was founded by such iconic figures of national history as Yanka Kupala, Yakub Kolas, Zmitrok Biadulya, Tishka Gartny, Mikhail Zaretsky and others. At various times, the magazine was headed by famous writers: Platon Golovach, Mikhail Lynkov, Ivan Melezh, Petrus Brovka and others. For almost twenty years (1948-1967), the editor-in-chief of the main Belarusian literary and artistic periodical was Maksim Tank, whose talent, erudition and awareness of the world literary process contributed to enriching the content and genre palette of the publication.
