On 17 March at the art gallery “Labyrinth” of the National Library of Belarus opened an exhibition “Heritage through the lens: 150 years of the photography of Italian objects listed by the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage”.

The event has been prepared by the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in the Republic of Belarus and the National Library of Belarus within the framework of celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification.

The exposition includes more than 200 historical and modern photos from the collections of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activity of Italy with 45 Italian objects listed by UNESCO World Heritage. There are photographs taken over the past 150 years: historical photographs of the 1850s, stereoscopic photographs of the late 19th century, historical postcards, air photographs and up-to-date digital photographs.

Along with photographs, the exposition presents the collection of books on Italian art published by Franco Maria Ricci Publishing House. One of the most prestigious publishing houses in the world, it is famous for the exceptional quality of editions and texts written by art critics whose names are well known the world over.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italia Arnaldo Abeti, First Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Karachevsky, Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky, representatives of the diplomatic corps and the Italian Diaspora, and cultural and art workers took part in the event.

The exhibition runs until 10 April at the art gallery “Atrium” of the National Library of Belarus.
