On May 16th, the international exhibition of students’ modern visual art “The facets of creativity” has opened in the National Library.


The motto of this year’s exposition, dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book-printing, is: “Francysk Skaryna. The man of perfection”. The personality of the famous enlightener is not only perfect, but also very versatile – the publisher, translator, philosopher, theologian, entrepreneur, educator, doctor of medicine, and doctor of free sciences. It would be complex enough to express the understanding of such a phenomenon as Skaryna in a single artistic genre. Therefore the artists have made maximum use of various techniques to present a wide variety of works of art – photographs, paintings, graphics, grisaille, lettering, sfumato etc.

“People have the great mercy to the place where they were born and nurtured to the glory of God” – this quotation by Skaryna is the basis for works in nomination “I, Frantisek, the son of Skaryna…” They are literary drawn with the words, as texts and graphic forms are artistic object here.

One more nomination “The initial cap. The printed word. Capital letters” includes the illustrations to the known authors’ works dedicated to Skaryna.

In nomination “Photo-alternat. The source of wisdom, knowledge and science, medicine for soul” the authors presented pictures of the oldest books from their private libraries.

The nomination “A visual set. Vademecum: there is a big mystery” united the pictures of architectural objects and sites related to the life and work of Skaryna.

The opening ceremony was attended by the deputy director for research work and publishing Alexander Susha, the deputy chair of the Standing commission for education, culture and science of the Chamber of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Tatiana Yakubovich, and also the expert group members – the director of the publishing house Magic Yuri Butko, the director of the photo studio MARXSTUDIO Sergey Marugo, the chief-editor of the magazine TAXI Sergey Stelmashonok, the head of the department of cinema operatorship of the screen arts faculty of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts Andrey Chuprinsky.

The exposition will run in the gallery “Labyrinth” (3rd floor) till 10 August, 2017.

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).
