On February 24, 2009, at 17.00 in the NLB’s mobile gallery (the third floor) takes place the opening of a historical art exhibition “Emerik von Gutten-Czapski. Against a background of the epoch”.
The exhibition is organized in cooperation with Priluki Center of People’s Art and dedicated to Emerik von Gutten-Czapski’s anniversary.
On November 17, 2008, was the 180th anniversary of count Emerik von Gutten-Czapski (1828-1896), the eminent collector and outstanding representative of Czapski noble family who settled in Minsk region in the 18th century. Emerik Czapski had graduated from Moscow University as a candidate of natural sciences, took up posts of vice-governor of St.-Petersburg and governor of Novgorod, then of director of the Ministry of State Property of Russia Forest Department.
In retirement, Emerik Czapski settled in Stankovo estate, collected a large library and started gathering numismatic collection and other collections of antiquities. Later Emerik Czapski was rewarded with a silver medal of Russian Archaeological Community for an active scientific work. Most part of Emerik Czapski’s collections was removed to Krakow, the old Polish capital to form the basis of National Museum. Archives of Emerik Czapski’s descendants arrived to Krakow as well.
Count Emerik von Gutten-Czapski created in Minsk region a large administrative unit – Stankovsky Kluch to which Priluki estate joined in 1871. In 2001 an association for history and regional studies “Priluki Heritage” was set up in Priluki on the basis of Priluki Center of People’s Art.There is a rich collection of materials on life and career of Emerik von Gutten-Czapski and other representatives of the noble family.
Priluki Center of People’s Art presents an anniversary exhibition where are displayed art works (portraits of Emerik von Gutten-Czapski and other representatives of the noble family, historical tapestry), books, albums, and archival materials from the collections of “Priluki Heritage” association.
National Library of Belarus displays at the exhibition materials on life and career of Emerik von Gutten-Czapski and other representatives of the noble family.
The exhibition is open till March 23, 2009.
