The award ceremony of the drawing competition “Draw Your Rights, timed to the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, took place in the library, on December 6.
The document, whose anniversary is marked this year, is one of the most important in human history. The declaration is featured in the Guinness World Records: in 70 years it has been translated into more than 500 languages. The document reflects the fundamental human rights: the right to life, work, education and medical care, a decent standard of living, and many others. On the basis of this document, constitutions of many countries, including Belarus, were written.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Office in Belarus, together with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus and the National Center for Creative Arts of Children and Youth, organized an exhibition and competition “Draw Your Rights. 70 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. ”
At the award ceremony, Alexander Susha, the deputy director of the National Library of Belarus for research and publishing, recalled that the country's main library since 1957 is the United Nations depositary, which holds a unique collection of UN documents available to readers.
The head of the Department of Public Information of the United Nations Office in Belarus, Viktor Radzivinovsky, congratulated the winners of the competition and thanked parents and teachers for teaching children respect for human rights and freedoms.
The event was also attended by Elena Levina, the deputy director of the National Center for Creative Arts of Children and Youth of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus; Andrei Gvardiyan, the head of the Internet Resources Department of the National Center for Legal Information of the Republic of Belarus, winners and runners-up in the competition, parents, students and teachers from all regions of the country.
More than 500 people from 6 to 17 years old took part in the final republican stage of the competition. Their works reflect the ideas embodied in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Presents and diplomas of the First, Second and Third degrees in two nominations, “Painting” and “Graphics”, were given to 30 winners. Other participants were awarded diplomas.
The exhibition runs in the mobile gallery (circular hall, 3rd floor), from December 7.
