“Art-Minsk 2018”, an exhibition within the International Festival of Contemporary Arts, has opened in the gallery “Rakurs” (2nd floor), on May 4.

The grand festival unites the biggest exhibition areas, so that the residents and guests of the capital of Belarus can enjoy the arts. In Minsk, 18 cultural institutions, including the National Library of Belarus, have joined the event.

Both new and old exhibition spaces have expressed their willingness to participate: the National Art Gallery (Arts Palace), the National Center of Contemporary Arts of the Republic of Belarus, the Memorial Museum-Workshop of Z. Azgur, Belarusian State Academy of Arts, the art galleries "Belart", “Ў”, "A&V", "DK", "Art Port", “Blique”, “Pradmescie "etc. So, for one month, the city has turned into a huge gallery with an infinite number of diverse works of Belarusian and foreign artists, from the controversial and bizarre to realistic and restrained. In general, the arts for every taste are represented.

More than 800 applications for participation in the festival were submitted. The exhibition presents the works of those who have passed the initial selection.

An abundant exposition in the gallery “Rakurs” of the National Library of Belarus offers the works of art by known masters of different generations, both from Minsk and other cities of Belarus. The paintings of Nicolay Kireev, Elena Baranovskaya and Anatoly Otchil are on display, along with the delicate watercolors of the colorists Semen Damarad and Maria Isayonok, lyrical chamber canvases of Sergey Pisarenko, spectacular paintings of Oleg Ustinovich and decorative and technical works of Margarita and Vladimir Golubev.

The artists from Vitebsk, Galina Vasilieva and Victor Nikolaev, portray the traditions of the city, which is known in the world’s cultural history for the Vitebsk Art School.

The young generation of Belarusian artists is represented by Pavel Ksendzov, Anton Rodionov, Victoria Savenkova, Natalya Shkraba, Yuri Pevnev. They have already managed to show themselves in numerous exhibition projects, such as "The Autumn Salon with Belgazprombank". Their works are distinguished by not only technical skills, but also original, often paradoxical author's view. Among the young artists, it is important to mention the followers of the realist tradition Anton Vyrva, Mikhail Krotov, Daria Sumarova-Kopach. Graphic arts are represented by the watercolor paintings of Lyubov Abramova and chamber etchings of Marina Zhvirblya.

Sculpture is represented by masterly performed bronzes of Pavel Luk, and also small statuary of Sergey Aganov, the author of monumental compositions which decorate the streets and squares of Minsk.

The opening started with the welcoming speech of the deputy director of the Belarusian National Library, Elena Dolgopolova. The event was attended by the director of National Art Gallery, Alexander Zinkevich, the director of the Center for Visual and Media Arts "New Cultural Initiative" and curator of the corporate collection of Belgazprombank and the project "Art-Belarus", Alyaksandr Zimenko.

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
