November 15, at the Labyrinth gallery, the grand opening of the exhibition in memory of famous textile artists Alla Nepochelovich, Vladimir Lisovenko and Larisa Gustavaya took place as part of the 5th “DEKART-22” Triennial of Decorative Art of the Belarusian Artists’ Union.

The exhibition presents about 50 tapestries of famous Belarusian artists who passed away in Russia last year. They made a huge contribution to the Belarusian decorative arts. Their role in the development of the Belarusian school of textiles and tapestries is unforgettable.

Famous master of classical Belarusian tapestry Larisa Gustavaya (1947-2021) belonged to a generation of textile artists, graduates of the Belarusian State Theater and Art Institute, which is associated with the revival of national traditions of weaving and tapestry techniques in the 1970s and 1980s – a significant period for our art.

One of Larisa Gustavaya's favorite themes is a landscape with a symbolic interpretation of a natural motif, a decorative, conventional pattern. Often the basis of the composition was made up of ordinary flowers, herbs, trees, birds, animals, but they were presented by the author spiritually and idealized. In both monumental and chamber works, the emotional intonation, life-affirming optimism and lyrics were unchanged, revealing the author's feelings and thoughts, his desire to introduce the viewer to the creative process of empathy.

Expressive, imaginative works by Vladimir Lisovenko (1959-2021) – relief, three-dimensional tapestries using not only weaving, but also denim (jute), with inclusions of various threads in the canvas. For the artist, jeans are not only a symbol of youth, but also a textured material, more than just clothes. He said once: «Jeans were everything to my generation. I'm just running these old pants into eternal life. Hundreds of jeans of friends, acquaintances and, of course, their own, carrying a certain energy, old jeans that could become just a rag and be thrown away, turn into tapestries».

Alla Nepochelovich (1951-2021) made an invaluable contribution to the decorative and applied arts of Belarus. For many years, she taught at the Department of Folk Art and Crafts of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, and was awarded the title of laureate of the 2nd National Prize in the Field of Fine Arts for her textile compositions. Its tapestries decorate the Palace of Independence and the National Library of Belarus, the Grodno Drama Theater and the Mogilev Regional Palace of Culture. Her works are kept in most major museums in Belarus and delight viewers in many countries of the world: from Hungary to Kazakhstan.

The exhibition was opened by:
