Polesie is a historical, cultural and geographic area in the Eastern-European Lowland. It is located on the territory of four countries: mainly in the south of Belarus and in the north of Ukraine, partly in Poland (Lublin) and Russia (Bryansk). The total area is about 130 thousand km².

The Belarusian Polesie is divided into East and West, and their boundary runs between the mouths of such rivers as the Yaselda, the Horin and the Pripyat. Polesie occupies most of Brest and Gomel Regions as well as a small part in the south of Minsk and in the furthest south-west of Mogilev Region. It extends from east to west over 500 km and from north to south – 200 km. Thus it occupies about 30 % of the territory.

Rich virgin nature, a large number of rare species of animals and birds and as well as cultural and historical complexes attach this area its unique color and great ecological and cultural significance.
