The thematic exhibition "Forests – the green resource of the planet" takes place from September 1 to October 30 in the hall of periodicals (room 106).
Humanity has long adapted to use nature and its resources to meet its needs: timber extraction provided us with building materials and fuel, hunting and gathering provided us with food and medicines. With the growth of the Earth's population, the forest area had no time to recover, because forests recover very slowly in place of felled, trampled, dead or burned areas.
By the end of the XX century, a new paradigm of sustainable forest management was formed, assuming a purposeful, long-term, economically beneficial relationship between humans and forest ecosystems.
Sustainable forest management is especially important for Belarus. On the third Sunday of September (September 17, 2023), the professional holiday of all those whose work is connected with the protection of forests and their use is celebrated – the Day of Forest Workers.
In order to promote the development of the forestry industry, the effective use of forest resources, and the preservation of the ecological and social role of forests in Belarus, the State Programme "Belarusian Forest" for 2021-2025 has been approved. Articles from the journals "Science and Innovation", "State Control", "Proceedings of BSTU" will tell you more about the programme and features of effective forest management.
The articles from the editions "Forestry and hunting economy", "Labor protection and social Protection", "Journal of the Belarusian State University" are devoted to the preservation of the forest fund.
Recently, environmental education and eco-tourism have been in demand in the world. The natural potential of the forests of Belarus for the development of these areas is huge. These topics are mentioned by the articles from the magazines "Green Container", "Belaruskaya Dumka", "News of Gomel State University", etc.
In total, about 40 periodicals are presented at the exhibition.
The opening hours of the exhibition corresponds to the library’s opening hours.
Entrance to the exhibition is available by the library ticket or ticket of the library's social and cultural center.
