The anniversary exhibition "We are here on earth to love", dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Belarusian poet, translator, publicist and Belarussian distinguished cultural worker Genadz Pashkow, is running from 22 March through 30 April in the Belarusian literature reading room (No 205).
Genadz Pashkow is a member of the generation of authors whose creative development was most active in the 1970s. Young and self–assured, the poet entered Belarusian poetry and began publishing. The master of words made a great contribution to the nation's literature by creating works of intimate, landscape, and philosophical poems with vivid artistic images. His primary artistic inspiration comes from the distinctive Belarusian landscape, his personal spiritual journey, and his extensive life experiences.
In the section of the exhibition "Earthly and eternal" you can get acquainted with the work of the poet. The first poems were published in the joint collection of young university poets "Inspiration" (1967). In 1975, Pashkow announced himself with a book of poetry with the euphonious title "Klianovik", where mostly landscape sketches are collected. In 1977, a collection of his essays "A day like a holiday" was published. With a short time interval, books of a very different genre range were published: “Dystantsyja nebiaspeki”, “Krasny zhavoronok”, “Graviury darog”, “Zianliu sluhaiu”, “Manalog na kastryshchy”, “Kroki”, “Liubliu, spadziaiusia, zhuvy…”, “Zhuravinavy vosraw”, “Paleskija vandrowniki”, “Ptich”, “Maio leta”, “Zornae pole”, “Kolki w nebe zor…”: Smargonshchyna litaraturnaia...”. The section also exhibits collections of poetry for children: “The girl with the blue ball”, “Fanny holidays”, “In the palms of the light” etc.
The section "With a clear and sonorous voice" presents G. Pashkow's poetry collections, which reflect on the future, the history and culture of his native land, the meaning of human existence, the complexities of time, understanding what he saw in other countries, and the theme of love. He created poetic images of M. Bagdanovich, Y. Kupala, F. Skaryna. The poet's poems are romantic and sublime, deeply lyrical. His works attract with their picturesque landscapes, the polyphony of forests and fields, the aroma of meadow grasses, the whiteness of snow expanses, and sunny colors. Pashkow's poetry reflected the Chernobyl disaster's tragedy. New verses and poems written in recent years are included in the collection “Blessed by your light”. The poet's most prized possessions in life – a woman and the country where he was born and currently resides – are expressed in the book with purity and lightness of feeling.
Genadz is interested in editorial and translation work, thus he is not restricted to one type of creative endeavour. The results of this work are available in the corresponding section of the exhibition.
