The World Health Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations, which is the guiding and coordinating authority in the field of health within the UN system. Membership includes 194 states. The organization's headquarters are located in Geneva.

The history of the World Health Organization dates back to April 7, 1948. On this day, its charter came into force. Every year since 1950, this date has been celebrated as World Health Day.

In 2023, WHO is celebrating its 75th anniversary. The seventy–fifth anniversary of WHO is an occasion to recall past public health achievements that have improved the quality of people's lives over the past seven decades. It is also an opportunity to provide an incentive for action to address current health issues of today and tomorrow.

World Health Day is a global campaign that aims to draw the attention of every inhabitant of our planet to health and public health issues. This is a unique opportunity to focus the world's attention on public health and human health issues, and to encourage Governments, international organizations, businesses, and civil society to work together to address these issues.
