The library has been hosting an exhibition called "Pearls of Belarusian Nature" in honour of the World Day of Nature Reserves and National Parks from January 10.

The World Day of Nature Reserves and National Parks is observed annually on January 11th. This holiday draws attention to the issue of protected natural areas, which allows for the protection of some fauna and wildlife from extinction.

Biosphere reserves are a type of protected territory used internationally. Berezinski, Belarus' first reserve, was established in 1925 to protect beavers. It is part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves today. There are 4 national parks, 2 nature reserves and 527 nature reserves of national and local significance in our country.

The National Park "Belovezhskaja Pushcha" is one of the most renowned parks in the world as well as one of the oldest attractions in the Republic of Belarus. It was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1992.

The exhibition consists of 9 thematic sections: "Natural territories of Belarus under protection"; "Natural parks of Belarus. Belovezhskaja Pushcha", "National parks of Belarus. Braslav Lakes", "Native parks of Belarus. Narochanski", "Native parks of Belarus. Pripiat", "Walking through protected areas. Berezinski Biosphere Reserve", “Walking through protected areas. Polesski State Radiation and Ecological Reserve", "Nature Reserves of Belarus", "We invite you to Belarus".

The exhibition presents a real rarity – the third volume of the publication "Picturesque Russia", published in 1882. It consists of two parts, one of which has the name "Belarusskoe Polesie". Here you can find articles written specifically for this publication by the historian and ethnographer A. Kirkor on the basis of materials collected by him during the expeditions of the 1840s and 1850s. The essay "Priroda  Belorussii" tells about the hills and highlands, the Neman, Dnieper and Western Dvina basins, lakes, swamps, as well as about animals and birds. The essay is illustrated with drawings by V. Dmokhovski and N. Karazin.

Among the unique exhibits at the exhibition is the publication "Belovezhskaja Pushcha" (1894), which has the original subtitle "Sketches with pen and photograph". The book includes an article about Belovezhskaja Pushcha and 40 photos of E. Vishniakov with picturesque views of the most ancient nature reserve in Europe. In this series – the publication "Belovezhskaja Pushcha: its historical sketch, modern hunting economy and higher hunting in the Forest" (1903), richly illustrated by artists M. Zichi, K. Kryzhitski, V. Navozov, as well as photographs by A. Dolmatov, G. Kartsev and others. The author pays special attention to the description of the largest representative of the Belovezhskaja fauna – the bison and its life in the forest.

The exhibition also features the monograph "Belavezhskaya Pushcha: vytoki zapavednastsi, gistoryja i suchasnasts", prepared by the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus as part of the State Comprehensive Program of Scientific Research for 2006–2010; encyclopedia "Nature of Belarus" in three volumes; popular science publications; photo albums with works by famous Belarusian photo artists S. Plytkevich, A. Dribas, A. Kleshchuk, I. Byshnev; travel guides in illustrations; tourist booklets.

The exhibition is addressed to students, university teachers, teachers, local historians, and a wide range of readers.

The exhibition is open in the ring gallery on the third floor until June 11, 2023.
The end date of the exhibition can be changed.

The opening hours of the exhibition corresponds to the library’s opening hours.
