From November 1 to December 11, the Hall of Belarusian Literature (room 205) hosts the exhibition "Borisov – a glorious city, an ancient city", dedicated to the 920th anniversary of the city's foundation.
On the picturesque bank of the Berezina River is the town of Borisov, founded by Prince Boris Rogvolod of Polotsk in 1102 and named after him. Throughout its more than 900-year history, the city has been of great strategic importance. Scientific works, articles, popular science books, pictorial albums, memos, and illustrative materials have been published about the life of Borisov in various historical periods and its rich cultural heritage, which are widely presented in the exhibition.
In the section “Touch the gray antiquity”, you can get acquainted with the work of the archaeologist, historian, founder of the Belarusian scientific archeology, researcher of antiquities of the Minsk region Evstafiy Tyshkevich: "Description of the Borisov uyezd". Also presented are the publications "The City of Borisov of the Minsk province" (1910),"Ten centenaries of Borisov city" and others.
The military history of the city, the events of 1812, the Great Patriotic War, the partisan struggle of Borisov is reflected in the section "Relics of military exploits", books "Over Byarozai" V. Pashkevich, "To be known, to be remembered...", "Cities of military glory of the Minsk region", "Borisov and Borisov uyezd in the Patriotic War of 1812” by V. Krasnyansky, "War of 1812: military art, military-economic confrontation, humanitarian aspects" and etc.
In 1871, the Moscow-Brest Railway was built. On the right bank of the river there was a railway station and the commercial and industrial village of Novo-Borisov. There were two match factories in the city "Viktoria" and "Biarazina", paper factory "Papіrus", crystal factory "Barysau", tar-distilling and turpentine, tile-pottery and pottery-ware production, iron foundry and sawmills, etc. Steamships were built at the shipyard. Some businesses are still operating today. The history of Borisov's industry and its rich architectural heritage is illustrated by the materials of the section "Ancient crafts and modern production".
