Based on the decision of the Association council on the resolution of the disputes, many countries have been celebrating the International day of conflict resolution each third Thursday since 2005. This year the holiday is celebrated on October 20th.

One of the alternatives of settling the issues and one of types of applicable procedures is mediation. Mediation is not a new event, and was known and applied widely in ancient times. The cases of using a third party as the means to settle the conflicts had been applied in Phoenicia, Babylon, ancient Greece. The need for mediation was raised again in the 20th century only; this institute began to revive in the second half of the 20th century. It was receipted originally in the USA, Australia, the Great Britain, i.e. in the countries of Anglo-Saxon law, and then it had been spreaded throughout the Europe. Having revived on the household level, the mediation began transferring to the field of professional activity gradually.

The goal of the mediation is to resolve a dispute in case the parties to the dispute can not resolve it by themselves, but there is a chance to do it before the decision on the dispute has been issued by the court. A legal action of dispute settlement differs from mediation in essentially.

The subject of reconciliation on the pre-court stage becomes more interesting both in the Republic of Belarus and in the entire international community. The Law of the Republic of Belarus No 58-3 “On mediation” adopted in 2013 on settling the disputes, arising from labour, family and civil legal relationship by mediation, both before the proceeding and after it has been started. The law has become an important impetus for working it up as a complex phenomenon, which allowed extending the capabilities of citizens and entities of Belarus in their choice of settling conflicts. The mediation is integrated into the national legal culture after it has been adopted.

The opening hours of the exhibition corresponds to the library’s opening hours.
