The Constitution of the Sovereign Republic of Belarus was adopted on March 15, 1994 by the Supreme Council. Subsequently, amendments and additions to the Constitution were made three times (always by way of a referendum).

The Constitution is the legal foundation of state and public life, the main source of the national legal system. It defines the constitutional system, the main foundations of the state and ensures their stability and reliable protection by its regulations and provisions, strengthens political and ideological pluralism, as well as the legal status of a person and a citizen.

The structure of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus is standard: preamble, main part and final, transitional provisions. The Constitution consists of 146 articles, all of its provisions must be understood in a systemic relationship. It has supremacy over all other legal acts and constitutes the core of the state's legal system. Distinctive features of the current Constitution are: consolidation of the diversity of forms of ownership as an economic basis; establishment of equality between the state and the citizen, their mutual obligations; orientation of legislation to generally recognized principles of international law; separation and interaction of powers; direct nature of the Constitution.

Throughout the history of the development of Belarus as an independent, independent state, there have been five constitutions in the country. The constitution as a product of the state reflects the level of development of the entire society, the nature of the power relations that developed at the time of its adoption. This is the first Constitution in the history of the Belarusian state, which at the highest legislative level consolidated the idea of a legal state as the basic value of our society.

The exposition includes about 70 documents: books, thesis abstracts, periodicals.
