The National Library is holding an event dedicated to the 115th anniversary of Jan Skrygan (1905–1992), a Belarusian writer, and member of a literary association "Maladnyak" on November 12.

At the literary evening, you will learn a lot of interesting things about the life and work of the outstanding Belarusian writer, poet and critic, creator of the Belarusian essay as a new literary genre. The event has been organized as part of the joint project “On the Wave of Time, Throughout the Life”, realized by the National Library of Belarus, the State Museum of History of Belarusian Literature, "Zviazda" publishing house (in particular, “Maladosts” journal) and the Belarusian State Archives–Museum of Literature and Art. Due to the joint efforts of the participants on the project a virtual section, dedicated to Jan Skrygan's anniversary has been prepared, which will be presented at the event. It contains full texts of the author's books, valuable documents, photographs and archival materials from the collections of the National Library of Belarus, our partners, as well as from the home archive of the writer himself.

Interesting meetings and discoveries await you at the event. Ms Galina Skrygan, the writer's daughter will talk about her father, about the preservation of the writer's heritage by his family. In recent years, she has been the compiler of many books published for each anniversary of the writer. This year, Ms Skrygan will present a new edition - an illustrated album "from Domestic Archives of Jan Skrygan" (2020), published for the 115th anniversary of the writer.

You will hear fascinating stories about the writer from the chief editor of the "Knigazbor" publishing house and the author of the "Belarusian Knigazbor" project Mr Kanstantin Tsvirka and a family member of the writer Ms Jawgen Zhuk, head of the National Library Digitization Department. The video will feature a musical dedication to grandfather from Jan Skrygan Jr. - a famous classical guitar performer who has traveled with concerts to many countries and now lives near Freiburg.

Under a High Star of Poetry


An exhibition titled “Under the High Star of Poetry”, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Belarusian poet, literary critic, PhD in philological sciences Mikola Arochka (1930–2013) is on show in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205) from 12 November through 30 December.

From the Books of Uladzimir Karatkievich


An exhibition titled “From the Books of Uladzimir Karatkievich”, timed to coincide with the 90th anniversary of the writer, will be open in the Book Museum of the National Library of Belarus from November 24.

Exhibition of Books on Genealogy


A thematic exhibition on the genealogy of Belarus is presented in the Manuscripts, Rare Publications and Early Printed Books Reading Room (348). Printed books and manuscripts will help specialists and enthusiasts to quickly orient in the study of one's ancestry outside the archives.

The National Library of Belarus will host an event dedicated to the 115th anniversary of the birth of Yan Skrygan (1905-1992) on November 12, the Belarusian writer, the member of the literary association "Maladnyak".

The Lyricism of His Music


The exhibition "The Lyricism of His Music" is on show in the Music and Audiovisual Documents Reading Room (room 305) from November 10 to December 7. The exhibition dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the Belarusian composer, teacher, Honored Art Worker of Belarus Grigory Pukst (1900-1960).
