A scientific and practical seminar “Sources on genealogy in Belarusian archives and libraries” will be held in the Library on March 27.
It is organized by the National Library of Belarus and the National Historical Archives of Belarus.
As is known, the main genealogy sources in our country are concentrated in the NHAB in Minsk and the NHAB in Grodno, but there are much of the valuable documents stored in libraries, museums, parish archives, and even in private collections. One of the main tasks of the seminar is to popularize the manuscript treasures of the National Library of Belarus. There is kept a significant, but so far little-known collection of documents of the genealogical nature of the first half of the 18th − beginning of 20th century. These are mainly metric books about births, marriages and funerals from Orthodox, Uniate and Catholic churches from different parts of Belarus.
Several candidates of historical science will report at the seminar.
After the discussion, it is planned to attend a thematic exhibition in the Manuscripts, early printed and rare editions reading room (room 348).
Free admission (by the library ticket or ticket of the library's social and cultural center).
Time: 4 p.m.
Location: Educational technologies hall (room 346).
