Location

The Book Museum of the National Library of Belarus (room 347) invites you to get acquainted with the best examples of typography and manuscripts published over the centuries in different corners of the world.

The permanent exhibition and expositions held in the museum reflect the reach history of the Belarusian and European book culture and the path of formation and development of the country's main library.

At the exhibition you can see the gems of the book collection of the National Library of Belarus:

  • different handwritten books (scrolls, pothi, codes) made from various materials (palm leaves, parchment, bamboo tablets, paper);
  • first printed books, from the first experiments of Johannes Gutenberg from the 1440’s till the end of the 15th century;
  • masterpieces of the Belarusian typography of the 16th – 18th centuries, created by Francysk Skaryna in Prague, Pyotr Mstislavets and the Mamonich brothers in Vilnius, Maxim of Vashchenko in Mogilev, the Radziwills in their Brest and Nesvizh typographies, as well as old printed editions from Kutein, Suprasli, Grodno, Polotsk, etc.;
  • books printed by famous publishing masters of Europe of the 15th – 18th centuries;
  • samples of ancient icon settings and owner's bindings of the 15th – 20th centuries, miniature editions and folios, as well as books with autographs of Belarusian and foreign writers and artists.

In the Book Museum there are tours for children and adults, and the "Book Professors' Club" which organized classes for children and adults.

Seminar "Belarus – republic-partizan"

As part of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders, the National Library of Belarus is implementing the project "The Names of Heroes are immortal".


Dancers' Painter

The book and illustrative exhibition "Dancers' Painter", dedicated to the 190th anniversary of the birth of the French impressionist artist Edgar Degas (1834–1917), takes place from July 5 to August 25 in the Fine Arts reading room (room 306).

Modernity and the future of the Earth's population

From July 2 to August 5, in the documents of international rganizations of the National Library of Belarus (2nd floor, room 207g), a thematic book exhibition "Modernity and the future of the Earth's Population" takes place. The exhibition is dedicated to World Population Day, the 75th anniversary of the formation of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the 30th the anniversary of cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and UNFPA .

Chronicle of the Liberation of Belarus

Since July 1, the Book Museum has organized an exhibition "Chronicle of the Liberation of Belarus", dedicated to the landmark anniversary – the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders.

The Unforgettable Echo of the War

The book exhibition “The Unforgettable Echo of the War", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus, takes place from June 28 to August 1 in the Belarusian Literature reading room (room 205).

Ballads of Courage

On July 1 the grand opening of the exhibition "Ballads of Courage" dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus (July 3) took place within the framework of the project "Colours of the Great Victory" organized by the Belarusian Union of Artists for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders.
