On September 1-2 the Library will take part in the celebration of the 25th Day of Belarusian Written Language in the city of Ivanovo, Brest region.

This year the holiday is timed to the Year of the Native Land. The Belarusians also celebrate the 400th anniversary of the first "Primer". That is why the theme of the participation of the National Library of Belarus in celebrating of the Day of Belarusian Written Language – 2018 is the Belarusian “Primer”.

The National Library of Belarus will held a lot of interesting projects in the framework of the event.

September 1–2, 2018

Ivanovo District Center of Culture and Folk Traditions
(Sovetskaya str., 50a):

  • exhibition “Belarusian Primer: the Generational Bridge”, dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the world’s first book entitled "Bukvar" (“primer”) (Vievis, 1618) and the Year of the Native land: it includes about 30 ABC-books and publications for elementary education in reading and writing;

  • electronic presentation "Belarusian Bukvar: Pages of History": it includes digital images of famous ABC-books of the 16th - early 20th century, among which there are the oldest patriotic books for teaching;

  • holograms exhibition of the ancient publications: the treasures from the collections of the National Library of Belarus are “recorded” in holograms for the first time: valuable old printed publication "The Bible" by Francysk Skaryna (Prague, 1517–1519), "The Gospel" by Peter Mstislavets (Vilna, 1575), "New Testament and Psalms" (Kutein, 1652);

  • illustrative exhibition “Bukvar”: it’s presented on 4 banners. Little guests will be able to make puzzles, answer the quiz on the books and draw on special interactive equipment.

September 2, 2018

  • "Modern Belarusian Book" (city park):
11.00-11.15: presentation of the facsimile edition of "Bukvar" and its donation to the central regional library named after F. Panfyorov.
  • The main stage (city park):
12.00-13.40: a solemn donation of a facsimile edition of "Bukvar" to the Ivanovo district within the framework of the opening of the 25th Day of Belarusian Written Language.
  • "A Good Book for Children" (October Square):
15.00-16.00: presentation of the joint project of the National Library of Belarus and the Viasiolka magazine, dedicated to the Belarusian ABC-book and its 400-year history.

The projects of the National Library of Belarus will be interesting to all guests of the Day of Belarusian Written Language.

From March 2 to April 21, the Musical and audiovisual documents reading room (No 305) is hosting the exhibition "Music from the Heart", dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the notable Russian composer, pianist and conductor Siargej Rachmaninaw (1873 – 1943).

Anthem of Poetry and Songs

The jubilee exhibition "Anthem of Poetry and Songs" honours the 85th birthday of renowned Belarussian cultural worker Vladimir Karyzna, is on display from May 3 to June 7 at the Belarusian Literature reading room (No 205) in Minsk.
