From September 5 to October 3 in the Belarusian Literature reading room (room 205) there is an exhibition "In Love with a Native Word" dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian linguist, founder of the Belarusian phraseology, writer and folklorist Fyodor Yankovsky.

In the history of each people there are people who come at the most difficult time, to highlight the way to the future with their wisdom and talent, to outline the main directions for the development of the nation. Such was and forever remained Fyodor Yankovsky (1918–1989), Doctor of Philology, professor, the Teacher, Honored Scientist of Belarus, member of the Union of Belarusian Writers. The main thing in the activity of this outstanding Belarusian philologist, diligent researcher of the native word was the service to the native land.

The scientist’s creative heritage counts about 300 works: monographs, textbooks, manuals, scientific articles on the Belarusian and general linguistics, the culture of speech. It is represented the Dialect Dictionary, Belarusian Literature Phonetics, Belarusian Phraseology, Belarusian Historical Grammar, as well as collections of catchwords and aphorisms, proverbs and sayings, comparisons, phraseological and definition dictionaries.

It is presented also linguistic works: novels, stories, essays, miniatures.

The publications edited by Fyodor Yankosvky are presented separatly.

The last part of the exposition is presented by biographical and literary-critical publications. It shows in more detail the life and work of an outstanding linguist, about whom many kind and sincere words have been written.


The opening hours of the exhibition corresponds to the library’s opening hours.
Entrance to the exhibition is available by the library ticket or ticket of the library's social and cultural center.

April 18, 2024 marks the 210th anniversary of the birth of Yevstafiy Tyshkevich, a famous archaeologist, historian, ethnographer, local historian and museologist. His research has raised whole layers of the historical past, he was one of the first Belarusian authors of local lore. To mark the anniversary of the scientist, an exhibition "Connoisseur of Belarusian Antiquities" has been organized in the Book Museum of the National Library of Belarus.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
