The book exhibition "Belarus Is His Song And Glory", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Pyotr Masherov is held from 2 to 28 February in the Belarusian Literature reading room (room 205).

Pyotr Masherov (1918–1980) was a party and state official of Belarus, one of the organizers and leaders of the anti-fascist underground and partisan movement in Belarus during the Great Patriotic War. In 1944 he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for heroism shown in the fight against the Nazi invaders.

After the war he was engaged by the Komsomol and party work. From 1965 to 1980 he was occupying the post of the first secretary of the Communist Party of Belarus Central Committee. This period of fifteen years long activity entered the Belarusian history as Masherov's epoch, the epoch of heyday, significant successes in the creation of industrial and agricultural potential, constructions, development of education, public health, science and culture, and other vital areas. The name of Pyotr Masherov is associated with the award of Hero City title to Minsk, the creation of world-famous memorial complexes Khatyn, Brest Fortress and the Mound of Glory.

There is a monument dedicated to Masherov in Vitebsk. A Minsk avenue, as well as other streets in many cities and towns of Belarus, some educational institutions, a number of enterprises and organizations are titled after his name.

The exposition gives an opportunity to get acquainted with Masherov’s articles, reports and speeches: Selected Speeches and Articles, Sovetskaya Belorussia, XXV Congress Of The CPSU and Actual Problems of Communist Youth Education, etc.

The book editions and materials that highlight the life and varied activities of Pyotr Masherov are presented at the exhibition. There are the book of memoirs and articles The Son of the Belarusian People, Pyotr Masherov (Syn belorusskogo naroda, Petr Masherov), the documentary story Pyotr Masherov: Life, Destiny, Memory (Petr Masherov: zhizn, sudba, pamyat) by S. Antonovich and the literary-documentary novel Pyotr Masherov by V. Yakutov, the biographical story The Masherov’s Family (Semya Masherovyh) by O. Pronko, the memories of former grubbers etc.

The publications in Belarusian magazines Archivy I spravavodstva, Belaruskaya dumka, Belaruski gistarychny chasopis, Dedy, Militia Belarusi, Neman, Yustyciya Belarusi can be also interesting for readers.

Connoisseur of Belarusian Antiquities

April 18, 2024 marks the 210th anniversary of the birth of Yevstafiy Tyshkevich, a famous archaeologist, historian, ethnographer, local historian and museologist. His research has raised whole layers of the historical past, he was one of the first Belarusian authors of local lore. To mark the anniversary of the scientist, an exhibition "Connoisseur of Belarusian Antiquities" has been organized in the Book Museum of the National Library of Belarus.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
