The thematic exhibition "Social Justice and Social Development" dedicated to the World Day of Social Justice is held in the International Organizations documents reading room (room 207g) from February 15 to March 14.

This Day was proclaimed at the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly on November 26, 2007 (resolution A/RES/62/10) and is celebrated annually on February 20 since 2009.

In its resolution the Assembly recognized that social development and social justice are indispensable for the achievement and maintenance of peace and security within and among nations and that, in turn, social development and social justice cannot be attained in the absence of peace and security or in the absence of respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms;

It stressed that the celebration of the World Day of Social Justice must consolidate further the efforts of the international community in poverty eradication and in promoting full employment and decent work, gender equality and access to social well-being and justice for all;

The UN considers aspiration to social justice of one of the main missions. The organization upholds the principles of justice by eliminating barriers to people due to their gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability.

In March 1995, the World Summit for Social Development was held in Copenhagen, at which the tasks of social development of modern society were proclaimed. The heads of 117 states and governments adopted the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and the Program of Action, which enshrined specific commitments to improve the human condition.

Five years later, in 2000, the UN member states held the 24th special session of the General Assembly for Social Development. They analyzed the results of the Copenhagen decisions, identified the main obstacles and ways of their elimination. The main conclusion of this meeting was that the economic growth of states should be associated with an improvement of people's life quality.

On June 10, 2008 the International Labor Organization adopted unanimously the ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization. It refers to the guarantee of achieving equitable results for all by providing employment, social protection, social dialogue and fundamental principles and rights in the workplace.
Every World Day of Social Justice is organized around a topic focused on the most pressing social issue. The theme of 2018 is "Workers in the search for social justice".
 At the exhibition there are about 70 documents. Most of the exposition consists of documents of international organizations (UN, UNESCO, European Union, Council of Europe, etc.) in Russian and English languages: books, periodicals, mimeographed UN materials, brochures, booklets.

The exposition reflects the following topics:

  • ensuring full employment and decent work;
