Women in History: Great, Famous and Beautiful, a book exhibition timed to the International Women's Day and the 300th anniversary of the birth of the first Belarusian female doctor Salomea Rusetskaya, runs in the library (the exhibition area on the 2nd floor), from 8 March to 3 April.
The previous era gave Belarusian history many outstanding female figures, who left a unique and significant trace in the world. They were not only the favorite of famous men, but also individuals who, along with the representatives of the stronger sex, influenced the course of history, helping mankind to comprehend the supreme divine wisdom, building temples of faith and science, and creating, maintaining, protecting beauty.
The offered exhibition, Women in History: Great, Famous and Beautiful, features about 150 exhibits: encyclopedias, books, magazine articles, graphic documents. Visitors to the exhibition will get acquainted with the materials telling about the life, scientific and artistic achievements of our famous compatriots. Among them there are the freedom-loving princess of Polotsk Rogneda; the first Belarusian female educator Euphrosyne of Polotsk; Belarusian Orthodox St. Sophia Slutskaya; the Princess of Nesvizh, Francishka Ursula Radziwill, the first woman playwright in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania; the Belarusian Joan of Arc, Emilia Plyater; the great Belarusian writer and public figure of the 19th century Eliza Orzeszkowa and many others.
A separate section of the exhibition is dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of the first Belarusian female doctor, enlightener and author of the adventure novel The Adventures of My Life, Salomea Rusetskaya (1718–1763). The section features the fascinating book by V. Gritskevich about the Belarusian female doctor of the 18th century, who lived and worked in Turkey, Austria, Russia and other countries. The unusual fate of this brave and resourceful woman is reminiscent of an adventure novel.
The exhibition is addressed to a wide range of readers, interested in the literature, history and culture of Belarus.
