The exhibition “Moments of life” of the famous Belarusian avant-garde artist Vladimir Akulov opened on March 2 in the gallery “Labyrinth” (3rd floor).
Vladimir Akulov was born in the family of an artist-decorator in Baranovichi in 1954. He went to the artstudio of the Slutsk House of pioneers and pupils. His art style and character as a professional artist started to form during his studying in Vitebsk pedagogic institute at art-graphic faculty under the influence of Kazimir Malevich’s, Mark Shagal’s, Vera Ermolaeva’s, El Lisitsky’s works. Today Akulov is one of the most famous and brightest representatives of Belarusian avant-garde. The main thing in his art is to preserve traditions and spirit of avant-garde of 1990s.
The exhibition “Moments of life” surprises with its diversity. His works are united into large-scale topical cycles “Masks and images”, “War”, “Great people”, “Animalistic cycle”, “Football players”, etc. The avant-garde artist sees the world in such a wide and non-standard way.
The deputy director of the National Library of Belarus Alexander Susha and the curator of the exhibition Evgeniy Ksenevich participated in the event.
The curator of the exhibition Evgeniy Ksenevich noted that he was very pleased to see at the opening day young people who are interested in the work of the artist. By the way, Akulov’s exhibition has been recently held in the art gallery "University of Culture" at the Palace of the Republic and was very popular.
The opening of the exhibition at the National Library gathered not only its visitors but also lovers of Vladimir Akulov’s art and collectors of his work. Andrey Plesanov and Alexander Ivanov have been admirers of the work of the artist for a long time and with each subsequent exhibition they discover something new and experience fresh emotions and impressions, fill up their private collection. For example, there are 50 Akulov’s works in the collection of Andrew! And this is not the limit. Evgeniy is Ksenevich convinced that Vladimir Akulov can be compared with M. Chagall and K. Malevich.
