BEACH SOCCER

Beach soccer is a sport game based on the rules of the International Football Federation (Federation Internationale de Football Association, FIFA).

The main differences of beach soccer from classic football are:

  • sand covering and small size of the field;
  • no footwear;
  • five players in the team, including the goalkeeper;
  • short duration of the match (three periods of twelve minutes each);
  • free kicks are taken from a distance of nine meters;
  • an unlimited number of substitutions during the match;
  • no offside position, etc.
The history of beach soccer

Beach soccer originated in Brazil, helped by the warm climate and long sandy beaches on the coast. The new game rules are based on the Laws of the Game of association football, but the huge difference between grass and sand covering and the size of the field led to the emergence of a new independent sport. Today beach soccer is one of the most rapidly developing sports of the twenty-first century. World-famous football stars Frenchman Eric Cantona (Eric Daniel Pierre Cantona), Spaniard Julio Salinas (Julio Salinas Fernández), Brazilians Romario (Romário de Souza Faria), Junior (Leovegildo Lins da Gama Júnior) and Zico (Arthur Antunes Coimbra) played beach soccer matches.

The first official beach soccer world championship was held in 1995 in Rio de Janeiro. In 1998, the European Pro Beach Soccer League (EPBSL) was founded. In 2005, a partnership agreement was signed between the World Beach Football Organization (BSWW) and the International Football Federation (Federation Internationale de Football Association, FIFA), which gave a new impetus to the development of beach soccer.
