Commemoration of the events of 1812 in Belarus
In the Republic of Belarus there are more than 15 thousand monuments of history and culture, including monuments and memorable places connected to the war of 1812 whose 200th anniversary is celebrated in this year.
The commemoration of the events of 1812 consist of four main periods.
The first period covers the 1830s–1850s, the second is connected with the 100th anniversary of the war (1912), the third – with its 150th anniversary (1962).
After the proclamation of the Republic of Belarus (1991) the fourth period of the commemoration of the events of 1812 is determined.
