P. Brouka

Pjatrus (Piotr) Brouka
(25(12).06.1905 – 24.03.1980)

Pjatrus Brouka is a poet, writer and public figure; People's Poet of the Byelorussian SSR (1962); an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (1966); Honored Worker of Science of the BSSR (1975).

He is the author of poetry books, librettos to Belarusian operas, critical essays about literature and arts, translations into Belarusian of Taras Shevchenko, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Pavel Tychyna, Alexander Tvardovsky, George Gordon Byron and others.

Born in the village of Putsilkovichi, Borisov County, Minsk Governorate of the Russian Empire (now Ushachi District, Vitebsk Region, Republic of Belarus).
