The book and illustrations exhibition Silent Call to Eternity, dedicated to the 110th anniversary of Zair Azgur, an outstanding Belarusian sculptor is held from January 12th to February 12th in the Fine Arts reading room (room No 306).

The most difficult tasks facing a true artist is ability to express every epoch in sculpture, to present the history of a country with the help of art works, to scale and integrate the image of people, leaving a trace in memory. Zair Azgur (1908-1995), one of the Belarusian sculptural school traditions founders, realized this all in his work. His style, recognizable among many other authors, is characterized by expression, fluctuation and dynamic form, emotionality and expressiveness of the plastic solution.

The artist created essentially sculptural portraits, reflecting the hero’s age, character, mood and fate. The numerous replications of the Azgur’s works are presented at the exhibition. Visitors will see images of statesmen, as well as representatives of Belarusian culture, art, science, historical personalities such as Francysk Skorina, Kastus Kalinovsky, Vseslav of Polotsk, Pyotr Masherov, Yanka Kupala, Yakub Kolas, Kondrat Krapiva, Alaiza Pashkevich (or Ciotka) and many others.

Zair Azgur implemented a series of works depicting the participants of the Great Patriotic War, their resilience, courage and noble simplicity. The sculpture portraits of N. Gastello, V. Kharuzhaya, V. Talash, and M. Shmyrev will attract the visitors’ attention to the exhibition.

Especially it can be interesting to see the illustrative materials from the collection of Azgur Museum in Minsk, representing the pre-war works of the sculptor, the least studied period of his art way.

The exposition also presents the memoirs and articles written by Zair Azgur himself. Among them there are Unforgettable, What I remember ..., in which he vividly presented his epoch, historical events, his contemporaries, his own thoughts about the sculptor’s art and skills.

At the exhibition there are totally more than 50 documents, including reproductions albums, books, exhibitions catalogs, postcards and articles.
